Israel's ongoing disregard for ICJ's genocide prevention ruling – Intercept

WASHINGTON – On Friday, the Intercept, an online American news organization, published a report shedding light on Israel’s disregard for the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) decision to prevent acts leading to genocide in Gaza. The report emphasized the continued brutality of the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) in dealing with Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, and prisons.اضافة اعلان

According to the report, since the ICJ’s ruling, at least 874 Palestinians have been killed and more than 1,490 injured in Gaza, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. This figure does not account for other Israeli acts of violence in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, Khaberni reported.

Al Jazeera reported that IOF forces in the West Bank handcuffed a Palestinian youth, forced him to wear military attire, and used him as a human shield during a raid on a refugee camp in occupied Jerusalem.

The Intercept also mentioned that IOF soldiers disguised as medical personnel invaded a hospital in the West Bank and executed three Palestinians by shooting them “in the head from close range.” After receiving shrapnel from an Israeli drone missile, one of the victims was in the hospital for nearly four months.

Palestinians who were released from Israeli prisons shared disturbing testimonies about their humiliation and the visible signs of torture on their bodies. In one video that circulated this week, an IOF soldier forced abducted Palestinians to declare that they would be their slaves.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, disturbing video footage from the past week showed a mass grave containing 30 bound and blindfolded bodies was discovered in a school in northern Gaza. Additionally, a six-year-old girl in Gaza witnessed the IOF opening fire and killing her family inside the car they were traveling in. Although she survived, her current whereabouts remain unknown.

Furthermore, an IOF soldier filmed himself in Khan Yunis, echoing Netanyahu’s speech about the biblical story of Amalekite. In this story, God orders the killing of an entire community. These comments helped South African lawyers demonstrate Israel’s intent on genocide.

Furthermore, the American newspaper highlighted that “the broader misery faced by all residents” in Gaza is a cause for concern.

The Guardian reported that “between 50 percent and 62 percent of all buildings in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed.”

The ongoing famine has forced Palestinians to eat grass and drink contaminated water.

Additionally, UNICEF estimates that around 17,000 children in Gaza are orphaned or separated from their families, left to fend for themselves.

Furthermore, within hours of the ICJ’s ruling, Israel accused 12 out of 30,000 UNRWA employees of being involved with Hamas in Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. Consequently, the US immediately suspended its funding to UNRWA, the largest humanitarian aid provider in Gaza, prompting several other countries to follow suit.

Subsequently, Sky News obtained an Israeli document that significantly reduced the claim to six UNRWA employees being involved in Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. While these documents allege further connections between UNRWA and Hamas, they do not directly implicate UNRWA.

The stark contradiction lies in the US decision to halt funding based on unverified allegations while refusing to reconsider its military funding to Israel, despite serious accusations of genocide.

The Intercept also reported that when asked about Israel receiving aid while its government officials call for ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for the US Department of State, responded that “the minister clarified during his recent visit to Israel that it is important for the Israeli government to address those issues and comments publicly and to reiterate that forcing Palestinians to leave Gaza is not Israeli policy.”

However, Israeli officials disregarded the US’ confirmations. Two days after the ICJ issued an order to the Israeli government to prevent genocide, government officials, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Itamar Ben-Gvir, the Minister of National Security of Israel, and Bezalel Smotrich, the Finance Minister of Israel, convened to discuss creating Israeli settlements in Gaza.

“Yoav Gallant told members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in the Knesset that Israel will retain military control over Gaza after the end of the military campaign so that it can operate in the same way it does in the West Bank,” the publication reported.

Additionally, Smotrich stated that “allowing aid to enter Gaza contradicts the goals of the Israeli campaign.” These statements incited Israeli citizens to gather at aid crossings, attempting to prevent aid trucks from entering Gaza. Millions of Gazans face the risk of famine and malnutrition every day.
