On Sunday, the Israeli security cabinet, known as the "Cabinet," approved a proposal presented by the extremist Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, which involves separating 13 settlements in the West Bank from the surrounding settlements and initiating steps to recognize them as "independent" new settlements.

According to the Israeli newspaper *Yedioth Ahronoth*, this decision is part of a project led by Smotrich through the "Settlement Administration" within the Ministry of Finance that he heads, alongside the approval of tens of thousands of housing units in the West Bank. This move aims to annex the West Bank to the State of Israel.
Israeli Channel 12 quoted Smotrich as saying after the approval decision, "This is an important step toward annexation and formal sovereignty over the West Bank. We are leading a revolution to achieve our dreams of normalizing and legitimizing the settlements. We have begun steps to impose our sovereignty over the West Bank, raised our flag, and started building and settling."
It is worth noting that Smotrich issued instructions, in his capacity as Finance Minister, on November 11th of last year to "begin a comprehensive, professional, and fundamental process to prepare the necessary infrastructure to apply sovereignty over the West Bank."
Smotrich has pledged that 2025 will be the year of Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank.
