AVIV — On Sunday, the cabinet approved the appointment of
Energy Minister Israel Katz as the nation's top diplomat, pending Knesset approval. This move
replaces Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, who served in the role for a year as part
of an internal Likud party rotation agreement.

Although
Cohen is leaving the
Foreign Ministry, he will retain his position as a member
of the security cabinet. Additionally, he is expected to resume his role as
foreign minister in 2026, provided the current government remains in power,
Al-Ghad reported.
Since
October 7, Israeli strikes have resulted in the deaths of over 20,000 people,
with more than 50,000 sustaining injuries. Additionally, over 7,800
Palestinians are being held in prisons.
