This move comes despite the government's commitment at the recent Sharm El-Sheikh summit to suspend discussions on new housing units in settlements for a period of four months.

Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel would not establish new settlements. At the end of the meeting between Israel and the Palestinian Authority in Sharm El-Sheikh, he emphasized that "Israel is committed to suspending discussions on new housing units in settlements for a period of four months".

However, the Peace Now report indicates that the Israel Land Authority (ILA) published tenders on Wednesday for the construction of 940 housing units in the settlements of Efrat and Beitar Illit.

Details of planned settlement housing units
In Beitar Illit, 747 housing units are being planned in 11 different complexes, with 727 of these units part of the “Targeted Housing” program.

In Efrat, 193 housing units are being planned, all of which are also part of the “Targeted Housing” program.

Additionally, the ILA published another tender for 89 housing units in the Gilo Settlement neighborhood in East Jerusalem, also part of the “Targeted Housing” program.

Overall, the ILA published tenders for a total of 1,029 housing units in the West Bank this week.

‘Harmful and unnecessary’Peace Now, has strongly criticized the Israeli government's decision to publish tenders for new housing units. "This is yet another harmful and unnecessary construction initiative, as part of the messianic coup that is unfolding alongside the regime coup," the organization stated.

Peace Now also criticized the Israeli government for violating its commitments, stating that "lies and violations of these commitments are a sure way to turn Israel into an isolated country".
