JERUSALEM — Israeli Minister of National Security,
Itamar Ben-Gvir, issued an amendment to the law on the administrative release of
Palestinian prisoners on Sunday. The amendment cancels a policy that allowed
for the early release of some Palestinian prisoners.

As per the amendment, prisoners will no longer be able to be
released administratively from
occupation prisons. It used to be possible to
release hundreds of prisoners every year, those with minor sentences, due to
overcrowding and lack of space in the prisons, Khaberni News reported.
It's worth mentioning that in his election campaign,
ultranationalist Ben-Gvir announced his intention to tighten the screws on
Palestinian prisoners and even push for the Israeli Knesset to adopt the death
penalty.
During the past six months,
Ben-Gvir has issued several
decisions to tighten the grip on the prisoners and deepen their suffering,
including the closure of bakeries, reducing the use of bathrooms and water to a
minimum, doubling the frequency of raids and searches against them, and
canceling dental treatments.
