JENIN, Palestinian Territories — Two Palestinians were killed by Israel occupation
forces near Jenin in the
West Bank on Wednesday.

The Palestinian
health ministry confirmed “the martyrdom of the two young men” in violence near
the checkpoint, which is known to Palestinians as Jalameh, north of Jenin.
The Palestinian
news agency, Wafa, identified the two men as Ahmed Ayman Ibrahim Abed, 23, and
Abdul Rahman Hani Subhi Abed, 22, originally from the village of Kufr Dan
outside Jenin.
A Palestinian
security source confirmed to AFP that Ahmed Abed was a serving intelligence
officer of the Palestinian security services in the West Bank city of
Qalqiliya.
An Israeli soldier
also died.
The Jalameh
checkpoint is a major thoroughfare for goods coming into the occupied West Bank
from Israel.
Jenin’s local
authorities announced a city-wide strike in response to the two deaths, which
also sparked a solidarity march for their families.
Jenin has suffered
frequent
Israeli violence in recent months, as Israeli forces have launched
near nightly raids on the West Bank since mid-March
On Sunday, a
Palestinian man died from wounds sustained by Israeli gunfire.
A total of 97
Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank since the
start of the year, according to Wafa.
Fourteen other
Palestinians were arrested in overnight raids across the West Bank, Wafa said,
including four siblings.
“Around 1,500”
Palestinians have been “arrested”, Israeli forces said last week.
About 475,000
Jewish settlers currently live in the West Bank in communities considered
illegal by most of the international community, alongside some 2.8 million
Palestinians.
