Amman - Japan said Saturday it is considering recognition of the State of Palestine, taking into account making progress in the Middle East peace process.
Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa told a press conference in Tokyo that her country supports a two-state solution in the Middle East, Kyodo News Agency reported.
She said Japan understands the Palestinians' goal of establishing an independent state, and that it supports Palestine's efforts to achieve it.
"Regarding recognition of Palestinian statehood, we want to continue addressing this issue in its entirety, taking into account how to advance the peace process," she said.
