OCCUPIED TERRITORIES – The combination of motivated youth extremists on the ground, right-wing extremist politicians supporting them in Israel, and ineffective local security measures may lead to the ignition of a widespread uprising if Israeli authorities continue to overlook what is happening in the West Bank.اضافة اعلان

As reported by Al-Ghad Newspaper, with the continuation of Israeli military operations in Gaza, the West Bank tops the list of potential friction points that could escalate into a second front.

The security environment in the region has deteriorated significantly over the past two years, not only due to the expansion of influence by Palestinian groups but also because Jewish extremist elements from West Bank settlements and Israel are fueling violence.

So far, Hamas has not succeeded in leveraging the Gaza crisis to incite a collective uprising among the West Bank residents. However, the escalating Jewish violence against Palestinians makes it increasingly challenging to avoid this scenario.

What do the numbers say?
Since October 7, nine Palestinians have been killed in violent clashes with Jewish extremists in the West Bank, according to the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet). These victims add to the 182 individuals killed in counter-terrorism operations in the West Bank carried out by Israel during the same period.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), acts of violence committed by Jewish extremists increased to an average of seven incidents per day after October 7, compared to three incidents per day in the preceding month. Israeli authorities have not disputed these figures.

While such violence is not a new phenomenon and has spanned decades, it has taken on larger dimensions since October 7, penetrating relatively peaceful areas such as Um Safa and Burqa.

Although these acts were previously carried out secretly to conceal the identities of the perpetrators, they have now become increasingly visible and defiant.

Certainly, some of these incidents were provoked by the increase in Palestinian attacks in the West Bank, which tripled since October 7 and resulted in the killing of 45 Israelis over the past two years. This rise in numbers has deepened the sense of insecurity among Israeli settlers and motivated extremist elements to continue retaliatory attacks, sometimes immediately in the form of large-scale assaults on Palestinian communities.
