The Syrian Presidency appointed Maher Al-Shara, the brother of President Ahmad Al-Shara, as the Secretary General of the Presidency on Saturday. He replaces Abdul Rahman Salama, who will take on another undisclosed position.اضافة اعلان

According to "Al-Araby Al-Jadeed" newspaper, the position of Secretary General of the Presidency is a high-ranking role within the state structure. The person holding this position is responsible for managing administrative and organizational affairs within the Presidency, overseeing the President's agenda, coordinating official meetings and visits, and ensuring the implementation of presidential directives in coordination with government institutions.

Duties of the Secretary General: The Secretary General is also tasked with coordinating correspondence and official files, supervising Presidency staff and its departments, and representing the President at some official events. This makes them a key link between the Presidency and state institutions.

Maher Al-Shara previously served as the acting Minister of Health in the government of Muhammad Al-Bashir, which was formed after the fall of the Assad regime on December 16, 2024.

Maher Al-Shara was born in Damascus in 1973 and holds a Ph.D. in medical sciences, specializing in obstetrics and infertility treatment, as well as a diploma in health systems management. He also served as a health advisor in northern Syrian hospitals during 2022 and 2023.
