The Palestinian Hamas movement had announced a few days ago the suspension of the delivery of Israeli prisoners until further notice, due to Israel's failure to adhere to the humanitarian aspects of the agreement.
Since the implementation of the agreement a month ago, residents of Gaza have been suffering from the absence of basic necessities, with no tents available to shelter from harsh weather conditions. The Civil Defense has confirmed its inability to retrieve martyrs' bodies or remove rubble.
On Wednesday, Israeli media reported that Tel Aviv had requested mediators to inform Hamas of its intention to facilitate the entry of aid on Thursday and Friday, in exchange for continuing the prisoner exchanges.
Mediators to Announce the Agreement's Rescue
Sources told Al Jazeera that mediators will issue a statement announcing the success of the communications regarding moving forward with the implementation of the agreement.
Trump had threatened to open what he described as the "gates of hell" on Gaza unless Hamas delivers all Israeli prisoners by noon on the upcoming Saturday. Hamas considered this "an empty threat," and said it complicates the agreement.
Earlier on Thursday, Hamas confirmed it was not interested in the collapse of the Gaza agreement, while an Israeli official told Axios that the movement had been informed through Qatari and Egyptian mediators that Tel Aviv would uphold the agreement if the three prisoners were released by Saturday.
Hamas issued a statement confirming its commitment to fully implementing the ceasefire agreement, adding that mediators are applying pressure to ensure its full execution and to compel Israel to comply with humanitarian protocols and resume exchanges on Saturday.
It was noted that a Hamas delegation is in Cairo addressing the obstacles posed by Israel and the ways to fully implement the ceasefire agreement.
The movement emphasized that the language of threats used by U.S. President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu does not serve the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
