Following a meeting with US Secretary of State
Antony Blinken, Netanyahu expressed gratitude for Blinken's support over the
past five months, stating, “'While
I expressed hope for US support, I made it clear that if necessary, we would
proceed independently.”
Israeli Member of the Security Cabinet, Benny
Gantz affirmed Israel's commitment to continue military operations, including
in Rafah. He also mentioned that Israel will continue facilitating humanitarian
aid to the civilian population in Gaza.
The US has been pressuring Israel for weeks to
refrain from invading Rafah. The city's population has surged to one and a half
million people, with displaced individuals seeking refuge from the devastated
areas in the north and center, fearing a humanitarian catastrophe.
Furthermore, Washington, as the primary
political and military supporter of Israel since the war's outbreak, reiterated
its criticisms of Israel for imposing restrictions on humanitarian aid entry
and the significant civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip.
