AMMAN — A Hebrew newspaper reported
on Tuesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to halt
settler incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex from Wednesday through the
end of the holy month of Ramadan, according to Amad.
Israeli police announced that, on the
recommendation of Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai — and contrary to the
position of IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant,
and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir — the "political
leadership" decided that Jewish storming of Al-Aqsa would be prohibited
from Wednesday through the end of Ramadan.
Police officials confirmed that the
decision was made by Netanyahu, who chose to adopt a policy similar to one
implemented in previous years, closing the complex to Jews during the last 10
days of Ramadan.
