TEL AVIV – On Friday, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disregarded early predictions about October 7 after a discussion in the Knesset six years ago following "Operation Protective Edge," which describes something of a similar nature to October 7.اضافة اعلان

The newspaper revealed that Netanyahu had previously received warnings in the past. In a discussion held within the Knesset in April 2017 regarding “Operation Protective Edge,” he detailed this matter and accurately anticipated what happened on Oct. 7, Khaberni reported.

Yedioth Ahronoth noted that a heated debate took place between the families of Israeli casualties and Knesset members. Leah Goldin, the mother of late Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, sharply criticized Netanyahu for prolonging the return of her son's body.

Netanyahu stated, "The plan prepared by Hamas involved a joint, multi-axis attack. Primarily, there would be an aerial assault, with thousands of rockets targeting Israeli cities. Simultaneously, there was a maritime attack utilizing naval commando forces, and concurrently, another aerial assault employing paragliders. Underground, there were planned infiltrations through dozens of tunnels, some crossing into Israel, employing special forces trained for abduction and killing operations in settlements. The captives would then be transported to Gaza Strip territories."

He added "Hamas believe that they surprised us by activating this plan, unfortunately, we do not control the decisions of the adversary," he pointed out that Israel could influence Hamas's ability to carry out those intentions.

Netanyahu outlined how Israel worked to deter Hamas, stating, "I thought that the infiltration of a thousand or more fighters, seizing a settlement or taking hostages, would be a morale-boosting strike. We tried to avoid war, and we have a very tough enemy; it is not an easy matter. There are 30,000 people who want to destroy us, and they are preparing for it all the time. They are making tools to kill us, to penetrate us, to attack us."

Members of the opposition party criticized Netanyahu's government. Zehava Galon, the then-leader of the Meretz party, stated that Israel's strategy regarding Gaza was unclear. Netanyahu then responded that "Operation Protective Edge" changed the protocol with Hamas after Israel delivered strong blows.

In the same debate, Netanyahu revealed to the Knesset that Israel could deliver severe blows to Hamas, including the possibility of occupying the Gaza Strip. Still, there was the dilemma of who would rule Gaza, as well as the cost that would be paid by Israeli troops on the ground.

The newspaper added that Netanyahu’s cabinet already had a solution to a possible operation, and it could have been avoided on Oct. 7.
