TEL AVIV — In a recent interview on ABC News, Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that
Israeli Occupation Forces (
IOF) will
provide a “safe passage for the civilian population,” ahead of an expected
assault on Rafah. Netanyahu, rejecting criticism of moving to Rafah, added
"Victory is within reach. We are going to do it. We are going to get the remaining Hamas
terrorist battalions and Rafah, which is the last bastion, but we are going to
do it," he said in extracts of the interview released on Saturday evening.

Hamas warned on Saturday of a "massacre" in Rafah,
which has become the last refuge for more than a million displaced Palestinians
in the southern Gaza Strip, as Israel continues its heavy bombardment and its
prime minister issued directives to prepare an "evacuation plan" for
civilians from the city, raising international fears of a possible ground
attack, Al-Ghad reported.
Hamas said, "We warn of a global disaster that may
leave tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded if the
province of Rafah is
invaded," adding, "We hold the US administration, the international
community, and the occupation fully responsible."
The EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, warned
Saturday of a potential Israeli army attack on Rafah, saying it would be an
"indescribable humanitarian catastrophe."
Warnings continued against an
Israeli ground attack on Rafah.
The UN and US expressed concerns about an operation in
Rafah, the last haven for hundreds of thousands of civilians displaced by
Israel's brutal aggression.
