NEW YORK — Sigrid Kaag, the Senior
UN Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza said on Tuesday that no
organization can “replace” UNRWA, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
Many countries, including the US,
Britain, Germany, and Japan, have suspended their UNRWA funding after Israel
accused some of its employees of being involved with Hamas in Operation Al-Aqsa flood on October 7, 2023.
“There is no way any organization
can replace or substitute the tremendous capacity and the fabric of UNRWA and
its ability and knowledge,” Kaag told correspondents.
Additionally, to remedy the
situation, UN Secretary-General António Guterres met with the donor countries
to "guarantee the continuity" of UNRWA’s work in war-torn Gaza.
UNRWA has long been subject to
scrutiny by Israel, which accuses it of working systematically against its
interests. The occupation pledged to stop the agency’s work in Gaza.
