The Nakba, or catastrophe in English,
marks when nearly 700,000 indigenous Palestinians out of 1.4 million were
ethnically cleansed from their homes in historic Palestine by Jewish settlers
in 1948.
PCBS reported that out of the thousands
of Palestinians who stayed in the land controlled by the Israeli occupation in
1948 were driven out of their homes and their lands were seized. During the
Nakba, according to documented historical evidence, the Israeli occupation
destroyed 531 Palestinian towns and villages, carried out more than 70
massacres, and more than 15,000 Palestinians were killed.
PCBS reported that despite the
displacement of more than 800,000 Palestinians in 1948, as well as the
expulsion of more than 200,000 Palestinians (majority of them to Jordan) after
the 1967 Arab Israeli war, the Palestinian world population was 14 million by
the end of 2021, which means that the number of Palestinians in the world has
increased 10 fold since the Nakba, and more than half of them lived in
historical Palestine by the end of 2021.
