AMMAN — As of October 16, 2023,
according to the Gaza Health Ministry, 2,750 Palestinians have been killed, and
over 9,000 have been injured. Gaza has reached its tenth day of conflict, and
the situation continues to worsen. More than 1,000 children have been reported
killed by Defense for Children Palestine. The true scale of the crisis is hard
to determine, with expectations of even higher casualties. DCI Palestine found
that Israeli forces have been responsible for the death of a Palestinian child
approximately every 15 minutes.

In addition to the loss of life,
Palestinian children are facing significant psychological challenges.
UNICEF's
2018 reports indicate that one in four
children in Gaza needs psychosocial
support, with over half relying on humanitarian assistance for survival. A
substantial number of children are dealing with depression, grief, and fear.
Families are being devastated, and children who once had family support are now
left without caretakers.
The United Nations estimates that
around 1 million Palestinians in Gaza are now displaced, with over 600,000
taking refuge in central and southern Gaza. On October 9, Israeli authorities
cut off the
water supply to Gaza, causing all three water desalination plants
to cease operations. This has left the majority of Gazans without access to
clean drinking water, with some resorting to unsafe well water, raising
concerns about the spread of waterborne diseases.
