The talks aim to calm
the security tensions in the West Bank in the lead-up to the
holy month of Ramadan, news outlets reported.
During the summit, the two sides are slated to
discuss issues raised at the Aqaba Summit in February, including halting
unilateral Israeli measures in the West Bank and
occupied Jerusalem, strengthening
the Palestinian Authority's ability to allay tensions emanating from its
territory, and developing joint ventures.
Hamas reactionIn a statement, Hamas condemned the participation
of the Palestinian Authority in the Sharm El-Sheikh summit, calling for an end
to “all kinds of security coordination” between the Palestinian Authority and
Israel.
The statement said that,
since the Aqaba summit, this cooperation has only led to an increase in escalation

A bloody year2023 has been a bloody year in the
occupied Palestinian Territories, with the Palestinian Ministry of Health reporting
the killing of 89 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem at the hands
of Israelis, 16 of them children under the age of 17.
Meanwhile, 14 Israelis have been killed by
Palestinian gunmen, and at least 30 others have been injured.
Some, including CIA chief Bill Burns, have
expressed fears of an impending third Palestinian Intifada in light of rising
tensions in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, citing a similar
on-the-ground reality to that preceding the Second Intifada.
