AMMAN — Today, 250,000 people performed Friday
prayers at
Al-Aqsa Mosque, with Palestinians facing tight restrictions at the
Qalandia checkpoint between the northern West Bank and Jerusalem as they sought
to reach the mosque complex, according to Department of Jerusalem Awqaf
and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Director-General Azzam Al-Khatib.

Jerusalem Deputy Governor Abdullah Siam told Al-Mamlaka TV that
tens of thousands heading towards Al-Aqsa Mosque faced very great difficulties,
and many were prevented from entering due to their ages and other restrictions
imposed by the
Israeli occupation.
“An attack on the worshipers through a large stampede and the erecting of barriers confirms that the occupation does not want to see a Palestinian presence in the city of Jerusalem.”

‘Even larger schemes’Furthermore, Siam said, Israel is “planning even larger
schemes than that, as it is preparing for dangerous measures in the courtyards
of the mosque during the coming (Jewish festival), including
calls for the slaughter of sheep in the courtyards of the mosque.”
The deputy governor was referring to a letter sent by Jewish rabbis to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
and
Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir demanding that they be
permitted to slaughter animal sacrifices in the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex during
the Passover holiday.
These actions “will result in escalation, as the occupation wants to create a difficult atmosphere in which Muslims are prevented from reaching the mosque and performing prayers”
