A spokesperson for the Syrian Ministry of Energy stated: "Syria experienced a nationwide power outage on Tuesday evening due to faults at several points in the national grid."
For his part, Khaled Abu Di, Director of the General Electricity Transmission and Distribution Corporation, explained that the electricity had been cut off across all of Syria due to a technical malfunction. He emphasized that "work is underway to restore power and fix the issue."
He clarified that the problem was caused by the Aleppo power plant going offline, which led to the sequential shutdown of all other power plants. He noted that "the process of restarting the plants will take several hours, after which stability will return to all cities."
It is worth noting that Syria is facing a severe energy crisis due to a lack of necessary maintenance for power plants and networks, a severe shortage of fuel and gas, and the impact of international sanctions. These factors have hindered the ability of power plants to operate efficiently. Additionally, the electrical infrastructure has sustained significant damage over 14 years of destructive war.
The electricity sector remains a major challenge for the country, which is striving to rebuild its economy after years of devastation. (RT)
