Qatar warned that the closure of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which links Europe and Asia, would be “catastrophic,” stressing that shutting down waterways is unacceptable and that the world as a whole must unite to avoid catastrophic consequences.

Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, Director of the Media and Communications Department at Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said during a press briefing on Tuesday that the world is already suffering from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
“We cannot afford to add Bab el-Mandeb to this equation,” he said.
Al-Hashemi said closing the southern gateway to the Red Sea would be “catastrophic for the entire world,” noting that the global community is already witnessing the consequences and that Qatar is working hard to promote diplomacy and dialogue.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the country’s support for reaching an agreement on the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the importance of consensus among the parties involved to reach a solution.
The ministry also emphasized the importance of freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, saying it is working with partners to resolve the crisis and stressing that the solution to the regional crisis does not lie in military escalation, but in returning to dialogue and negotiations.
It affirmed that efforts would continue and would not stop, given that the Strait of Hormuz crisis affects the entire world.
