The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) handed over two Israeli prisoners to the Red Cross on Saturday in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, as part of the seventh batch of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

Hamas indicated that six Israeli prisoners, including Eliya Maimon, Isaac Cohen, Omar Shim Tov, Omar Finkar, Tal Shoham, Avira Mengistu, and Hisham Al-Sayed, will be released.
One of the released Israeli prisoners had been held by Hamas since before the October 7, 2023 war. He is of Ethiopian descent and had been detained for ten years by the Al-Qassam Brigades.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner Club, Israel will release 602 prisoners today, including 50 serving life sentences, 60 with high sentences, 47 prisoners from the "Wafa Al-Ahrar" deal, and 445 prisoners from Gaza arrested after October 7, 2023, as well as deporting 108 prisoners outside Palestinian territories in exchange for the six detainees.
The ceasefire agreement's first phase, which ends on March 1, stipulates that Hamas will release 33 detainees, including 8 fatalities, in exchange for Israel releasing 1,900 Palestinian prisoners from its jails.
Hamas confirmed its readiness to release all remaining hostages in one batch during the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
