According
to the WHO representative in WHO’s office for the
West Bank and Gaza, Richard
(Rik) Peeperkorn, addressing journalists via video link from Gaza, said “The
situation is worsening every hour.” He added, "Bombardment is intensifying
everywhere, including the southern areas from Khan Yunis to Rafah,” Al-Mamlaka
TV reported.
He
also mentioned that humanitarian aid reaching Gaza is "extremely
limited," and WHO is deeply concerned about the weakened healthcare system
in the densely populated sector as more people move south to escape the
bombardment.
"I
want to emphasize that we are facing a growing humanitarian disaster," he
said.
Furthermore,
he explained that the WHO followed an Israeli order to remove supplies from
warehouses in Khan Yunis, adding that they were informed that the area
"will likely become an active combat zone in the coming days."
"We
want to ensure that we can indeed deliver essential medical supplies," he
said.
The Director-General
of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, urged Israel on
Monday to revoke the order. Israel denied requesting the evacuation of the
warehouses.
