The US administration is preparing correspondence to bypass
the restrictions imposed by the US Congress, in hopes of fulfilling
Biden's promise to
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to provide the Palestinian
Authority with a financial assistance package, taking advantage of the golden
period leading up to the
US presidential elections before it's too late, the
report by Rai Al-Youm stated.
Of the $360 million, $100 million will be allocated to the
UNRWA, a similar amount to what was paid last year, I24 news reported.
Palestinian liquidity crisis
Abbas had emphasized on multiple occasions that the
Palestinian Authority is suffering from a
severe cash liquidity crisis that
threatens to cripple its institutions. Following this, he received two
promises. The first came from the US administration, which faced obstacles
within the
halls of Congress.
The second promise Saudi Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia
Mohammed bin Salman, who pledged to provide yet-to-arrive aid as well. Last Ramadan,
the Palestinian President received a promise from bin Salman to resume sending
annual aid, which could amount to $40 million annually.
