On Monday, a large crowd gathered on the outskirts of Beirut to bury Nasrallah and Safieddine, nearly five months after they were assassinated in an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Nasrallah's assassination, who led Hezbollah through decades of conflict with Israel and oversaw its transformation into a powerful regional military force, was one of the early violent strikes during an Israeli escalation that severely weakened the party.
Hezbollah supporters, holding pictures of Nasrallah and the party's flags, gathered early Sunday morning in a stadium in southern Beirut, participating in the public funeral for Nasrallah and other leaders who were also killed.
The official news agency reported that large crowds of mourners walked on foot from all areas of Lebanon toward the Kamiel Shammoun Sports City in Beirut to take part in the funeral.
