Turkish elections commence as millions of voters cast their ballots

AMMAN — On Sunday, the much-anticipated Turkish presidential and parliamentary elections kicked off as millions of eligible voters headed to the polls. Spread across Turkey, more than 191,000 ballot boxes were made available for citizens to determine the next president and select new members for the Turkish parliament. There are over 60 million eligible voters in Turkey, and an estimated 5 million individuals are set to cast their votes for the very first time. A diverse array of candidates from various political parties are competing for the 600 seats in the Turkish parliament, while an additional 151 candidates are running independently. Three are competing for the post of president, namely the candidate of the "People's Alliance", current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, "Nation's Alliance" candidate Kamal Kilicdaroglu, and Sinan Ogan, the candidate for the "Ata (ancestors ) Alliance" according to the Anadolu agency.
