Cooperation, support discussed in call with UNRWA high
commissioner
This announcement was made by UAE Minister of Foreign
Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan during a call on Wednesday with
UNRWA High Commissioner Filippo Grandi.
The discussion centered around the cooperation between the
UAE and UNRWA and explored various ways to support the agency.
During the call, Sheikh Abdullah informed the UNRWA
Commissioner that the UAE's support is in line with the directives of the
President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
Steadfast commitment to UNRWA's mission
Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE's unwavering commitment
to supporting UNRWA and assisting the agency in overcoming the challenges it
faces in fulfilling its assigned tasks by the UN.
He praised the services provided by the agency to
Palestinian refugees and expressed gratitude for the efforts of the agency's
staff in Jenin and its camp, particularly in the areas of healthcare and social
care.
Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the need for international
efforts to halt ceasefire violations and revive the peace process in the Middle
East.
The UAE minister reiterated support for all regional and
international initiatives aimed at achieving these goals, while emphasizing the
importance of ending illegal practices that hinder the attainment of a
two-state solution. He further emphasized the establishment of an independent
Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967
borders.
In response, Filippo Grandi expressed his appreciation for
the ongoing support provided by the UAE to UNRWA. He acknowledged the recent
announcement made at the beginning of the year, wherein the UAE pledged $20
million to support the agency.
