New York - United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk Tuesday renewed a call for putting an end to deadly violence by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, which has remarkably escalated since the war on Gaza began on October 7.

In a statement, Turk called for accountability for the killing of more than 500 Palestinians by Israeli forces and Jewish settlers.
As in Gaza, the people of the occupied West Bank are daily subjected to bloodshed in an unprecedented pattern, he said, adding that it is unreasonable that such a large number of lives were lost in a brutal manner.
The killing, destruction and widespread human rights violations are unacceptable, and must stop immediately, he said, adding that impunity for such crimes has been commonplace for a very long time in the occupied West Bank, which created a suitable environment for more unlawful killings by Israeli security forces.
