AMMAN — The UN Security Council convened a closed
consultation session on Friday evening to address the
situation in Jenin, a
Palestinian city in the West Bank, a local media outlet reported.

The members of the council listened to a comprehensive
briefing delivered by Lynn Hastings, the coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs in
the occupied Palestinian territories. The focus of the discussion was on the
aftermath of the recent attack by on the Jenin camp.
Coming initiativesDuring the session, deputy spokesman for the
UN secretary-general, Farhan Haq, highlighted the forthcoming initiatives that the
UN plans to undertake in response to the crisis. Immediate repair works for the
damaged water and sewage network will commence in the coming days.
Additionally, the UN will provide emergency food and cash
assistance to those affected by the conflict. Moreover, the organization will
offer psychosocial and social support services, particularly targeting children
who have experienced trauma.
Speaking at the daily press conference, Haq emphasized the
significance of rehabilitating the destruction inflicted upon residential
buildings, educational institutions, and healthcare clinics. Furthermore, he
stressed the importance of assessing the risks associated with unexploded
ordnance and implementing strategies to mitigate their impact on the affected population.
The efforts to address these critical concerns will be given
utmost priority in the recovery and rebuilding process.
