WASHINGTON — Two sources said on Tuesday that an agreement has been reached between leaders in the US Congress and the White House regarding a bill for a massive funding package for the military, State Department, and other government programs. This agreement will continue to block US funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) until March 2025.اضافة اعلان

US President Joe Biden's administration had announced in January the suspension of funding for the agency after Israel accused 12 of its employees out of 13,000 in Gaza of participating in the October 7 attack, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.

The US Senate passed legislation last month halting UNRWA funding, which was part of a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The legislation still awaits approval from the House of Representatives.

Supporters of aid are trying to restore the funding, urging Washington to support UNRWA at a time when relief groups are working to avert an impending famine in Gaza.

The two sources familiar with the agreement said that funding will be frozen for a year, and details of alternative efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza will be discussed after the legislation is published.

The White House and congressional leaders refrained from commenting on the agreement's details until the text of the spending bills is released.
