WASHINGTON — On Friday, the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, exercised the veto power against a resolution proposed by Algeria, which calls for a halt to the war in Gaza for humanitarian reasons. Ambassador Greenfield stated in a press release that the new resolution regarding the crisis, put forth by Algeria, "could jeopardize sensitive negotiations, hindering comprehensive and ongoing diplomatic efforts" aimed at securing the release of prisoners and ensuring an extended humanitarian ceasefire desperately needed by Palestinian civilians and relief workers.اضافة اعلان

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter on Saturday, the US delegate emphasized that the US, along with Egypt and Qatar, is diplomatically exerting sensitive efforts to secure the release of prisoners in Gaza and ensure a prolonged humanitarian ceasefire crucially needed by Palestinian civilians and relief workers, Khaberni reported.

She added, "The Security Council should refrain from taking any action that undermines this effort."
Some members of the Security Council believe that Resolutions 2712 and 2720 cannot be implemented without a cessation of hostilities.

Guyana's Ambassador to the United Nations, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett (current President of the Security Council), stated last Thursday, "Security Council resolutions and interim measures of the International Court of Justice cannot be fully implemented unless there is a ceasefire in Gaza."
