The US Department of
State released a statement on Sunday, addressing the issue, according to various
media outlets.
Opposition to
unilateral actionsAccording to Matthew
Miller, spokesman for the US Department of State, the US is "similarly
concerned by reports of changes to Israel's system of settlement administration
that expedite the planning and approvals of settlements".
The longstanding
policy of the United States opposes such unilateral actions, as they complicate
the achievement of a two-state solution and serve as an obstacle to peace.
Call for commitment
fulfillment
Miller emphasized that
the US calls on the Israeli government to fulfill the commitments it made in
Aqaba, Jordan, and Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.
The US urges Israel to
return to dialogue aimed at de-escalation, emphasizing the importance of a
peaceful resolution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
American dismay
According to The Times
of Israel, the US is dismayed with the Israeli government's plan to construct
4,460 settlement units deep within occupied Palestinian territory.
Israeli Finance
Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced the plan, which is currently up for
discussion and approval by the Israeli cabinet.
