DOHA – On Wednesday,
Israel released details about Palestinian prisoners scheduled for release under a foreign-brokered agreement.
This exchange is in return for the release of hostages held by the Islamic
Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza, a move seemingly aimed at allowing
consideration of any last-minute legal obstacles.

The list, disclosed by the
Israeli Ministry of Justice,
appears to encompass 300 prisoners, twice the number (150 women and minors)
agreed upon for release. This is part of a broader agreement, including an
initial four-day war truce, with the potential for additional releases on both
sides, Al-Mamlaka TV, Reuters reported.
Hamas announced the negotiation of a
four-day temporary ceasefire with Israel shortly after the Israeli government approved the deal.
The statement highlighted the strenuous efforts of Qatar and Egypt in
facilitating the agreement. The terms involve a ceasefire, halting all military
actions by the Israeli army in Gaza, and the entry of humanitarian aid into all
areas of the Gaza Strip, with a specific focus on the release of detainees. The
agreement also outlines a suspension of air traffic in designated regions
during the ceasefire.
Hamas emphasized the commitment of the
Israeli occupation not to target or arrest anyone in Gaza during the truce, ensuring freedom of
movement along a designated street. The statement concluded with a pledge to
remain faithful to the people's aspirations for liberation and freedom.
Simultaneously, the Israeli government confirmed its
approval of the agreement, anticipating the release of 50 women and children in
exchange for a four-day truce. The statement hinted at a potential extension,
with additional details about the resumption of military operations to be
communicated to the families of the detainees later on Wednesday.
