According to Khaberni, the Norwegian company "Mowinckel Chemical Tankers," which owns the chemical tanker that was hit by a missile in the Bab el Mandeb earlier, announced today, Tuesday, that the tanker is now heading to a safe port.

The president told Reuters that the crew of "Stranda," consisting of 22 people from India, confirmed that none of them was injured.

Simultaneously, the Houthi group claimed responsibility for the attack on the Norwegian oil tanker, stating that it was heading to Israel.

This comes after the US Central Command confirmed that a cruise missile attack, launched from an area controlled by the Houthis in Yemen, targeted a tanker as it passed through the Bab el Mandeb strait. The statement added that the tanker reported damage and a fire on board without casualties.

The Central Command also clarified that there were no US ships nearby at the time of the attack, but the destroyer Mason responded to a distress call from the tanker and provided assistance.

This attack followed renewed threats from the Houthis last Saturday, indicating that they would target all ships heading to Israel, regardless of their nationalities. They warned all international shipping companies not to deal with Israeli ports.

Since the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza on October 7, the Houthis have repeatedly threatened to target all Israeli or Israel-bound ships, wherever they are, especially in the Red Sea.

The Houthi group has already attacked ships in the Red Sea. During the first week of this month (December 2023), three commercial ships were attacked in international waters, prompting the US destroyer "Mason" to intervene.

Additionally, the Houthis, supported by Iran, seized a British-owned cargo ship last month that had links to an Israeli company. They also launched drones and ballistic missiles towards Israel, claiming to support Palestinian factions in Gaza.
