WASHINGOTN – On Saturday, Former US
President
Donald Trump defeated Nikki Haley, his last remaining
major Republican rival, in the South Carolina primary elections.

This victory narrows Haley’s already slim path
to the party’s nomination. The South Carolina primary occurred in the state
where Haley served as governor for six years, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
Haley had hoped to achieve better results,
given that polls had placed her about 30 points behind her
competitor.
Haley, who represents a more moderate wing of
the Republican Party, faced a significant setback with
Trump’s win. South
Carolina voters have a history of choosing the eventual party nominee. Trump is
now on track to secure the Republican nomination months before the party’s
summer convention in Milwaukee.
His previous wins in Iowa, New Hampshire, and
Nevada contributed to his strong position.
Despite her defeat, Haley’s campaign has vowed
to continue, launching a “seven-figure” national cable and digital
advertisement buy ahead of Super Tuesday on March 5. She plans to host a rally
in Michigan, which holds its primary on February 27, followed by a
cross-country swing through several Super Tuesday states.
Her persistence has frustrated Trump and his
allies, who argue that she has no viable path to victory and accuse her of
relying on wealthy donors to sustain her long-shot bid.
While Trump’s legal challenges and financial
penalties persist, his legal troubles have not weakened his support. His
campaign has already shifted focus toward the general election contest against
Joe Biden, who is poised to secure the Democratic nomination without a serious
primary challenge.
