PARIS — The French newspaper Le Figaro
reported that a group of around 10 French ambassadors in the Middle East
expressed regret over President Emmanuel Macron's perceived bias toward Israel
during the ongoing conflict with Hamas. The ambassadors criticized Macron's
policy during the siege, viewing it as a departure from France's historically
balanced position on the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The memorandum, considered a diplomatic
rebellion, was collectively signed by the ambassadors and addressed to the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being sent to the
Elysee Palace. The
document argues that Macron's pro-Israel stance is not well-received in the
Middle East and represents a break from France's traditionally balanced
approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Le Figaro wrote that the
French president is
also “taking the risk of sowing incomprehension and turning many against him.”
