It was not surprising that some voices within the Islamic movement in Jordan, particularly from the Muslim Brotherhood, continued their attempts to undermine Jordan’s role and its steadfast positions, especially concerning the Palestinian cause and Gaza. This ongoing campaign comes at an extremely sensitive time, as Jordan seeks to enhance its role in the region as a key ally of Palestine and a primary supporter of Palestinian rights.

Recently, a member of parliament from the Islamic movement sparked significant controversy by calling for the closure of an alleged "prison" said to be located within the General Intelligence Directorate (GID). This demand, which seems to lack any foundation or evidence, quickly met with widespread condemnation from various sectors, especially given the puzzling timing and nature of the request.
In this context, the repeated accusations against GID regarding the detention of sympathizers with Gaza or others add a new dimension to these ongoing smear campaigns. This claim, which is not supported by any facts, aims to plant doubts in the minds of citizens and direct accusations toward the security institution that has long been a crucial part of Jordan’s stability and security. The GID is one of the institutions that enjoys widespread trust within the community due to its vital role in maintaining national security and stability amid the volatile regional events.
What is even more surprising is that these accusations are emerging at a time when support for Palestine and Gaza is on the rise, both officially and publicly in Jordan. Since the onset of the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza, Jordan’s position has been clear and firm in supporting Palestinian rights and rejecting Israeli attacks. The kingdom has witnessed, and continues to witness, numerous popular and official events expressing full solidarity with the Palestinian people during their hardship, while the Jordanian government continues its efforts on international platforms to push for a halt to the aggression, lifting the siege, and rejecting any plans to displace Gaza’s residents to any location outside the Gaza Strip.
It is clear that the campaign against GID is just part of a series of ongoing attempts by certain parties, including the Muslim Brotherhood, to tarnish the reputation of Jordan’s security institutions. However, amidst this malicious campaign, it must be emphasized that Jordan will not allow these falsehoods to influence their unwavering positions in support of Palestine and the Palestinian people in their struggle against the occupation.
We cannot ignore the historical roots of these campaigns, where the Muslim Brotherhood’s demands at the beginning of what is known as the Arab Spring were focused on the abolition of the GID. This demand was presented as part of the "cornerstone of political reform in Jordan," a stance that has not substantially changed despite more than a decade passing since those demands. There is no doubt that such statements contribute to the spread of rumors and false accusations that indirectly harm national stability and weaken the trust between citizens and official institutions.
On the media front, the articles I have followed recently, along with the massive posts and comments that flooded social media platforms, reflected widespread support for GID on one hand, and harsh criticism of the individuals who made these claims on the other. The reactions have been firm, and the comments from Jordanians reflect national awareness and responsibility toward security institutions, praising the critical role GID plays in maintaining security and stability, which in turn reflects a deep trust in national institutions.
Finally, it appears that this demand, which lacks objective basis, is part of a systematic targeting of GID, attempting to sway public opinion against this institution, which represents a cornerstone of Jordan’s stability. While the Islamic movement may be seeking to raise key political issues in the country, continuing campaigns to undermine the country’s security institutions do not reflect a genuine desire for reform but rather may be an attempt to weaken these vital institutions during a crucial period in Jordan's political history.
