Green Spot Recycling is a Jordanian environmental initiative, founded in 2019 that aims to save waste paper from ending up in a landfill, by collecting and recycling it. The firm also promotes environmental ideas and provides environmental services.
“Green Spot Recycling began as an idea to promote good environmental habits in Amman, so we launched an initiative called Green Spots Maps, which featured an online map that highlighted environmentally friendly businesses,” said Jihad Shbatat, manager and founder of Green Spot Recycling in an interview with
Jordan News.

He said that during their work on Green Spots Maps, the company’s team realized there was strong demand for recycling bins and professional collection services among the businesses and companies they came into contact with. To fill a gap in the market, Green Spot Recycling was born.
The company focused on producing high-quality recycling bins for use at recycling awareness sessions and workshops, in addition to offering a collection service for recyclables. Green Spot Recycling began manufacturing recycling bins in Amman, to meet companies’ needs. It also makes shopping bags and other eco-products. Green Spot Recycling collects paper from shops, offices, schools, hotels, restaurants, and private residences.

Shbatat said he built his business from scratch with self-financing, motivated by a personal desire to make a difference for the environment and future generations.
“Our philosophy is to promote green and sustainable business. We have passed the foundation stage since the business has grown successfully and generates income, in addition it is also well-known in Amman,” Shbatat said.
The service the company offers not only helps keep workplaces and residences clean, recycling paper reduces pressure on the natural environment and reduces the need to cut down trees to turn in to paper.
“Recycling bins are produced from recycled wood and metal, we also sell bins that are made from plastic. We aim to use recycled materials,” Shbatat said.
He said that the company also offers on-site paper shredding services whereby discarded documents are shredded inside the company’s truck outside the customer’s premises.
“We also offer off-site destruction which is an alternate service in which we collect paper from a location in specific boxes and store them at the company’s facility, where documents will be shredded in a safe, highly secure, and environmentally controlled atmosphere,” Shbatat said.
The shredded paper is recycled and made into new paper.
Green Spot Recycling also helps in recycling metal and electrical motors. The company buys waste metals like aluminum, brass, copper, lead, and steel, and recycles them and turns them to their raw state so they can be reused in manufacturing new products, which helps reduce Jordan’s carbon footprint. Their service also reduces solid waste at municipal landfills.
The company offers waste management and collection services all over Jordan, shredding services, design, manufacturing, and distribution of branded eco products made out of recycled materials, in addition to waste auditing, benchmarking, and indexing services, waste management and transportation to landfills, and training services on recycling and upcycling.

Shbatat said that the COVID-19 pandemic was one of the biggest challenges that Green Spot Recycling has faced. “During the pandemic, we lost a lot of customers, but we’re working hard to improve,” he said, adding that the company is self-funded, which has limitations and poses financial challenges such as hiring and paying employees.
As part of its voluntary community outreach, the company is trying to create awareness workshops for schools on the need to protect the environment, and stress the importance of recycling. “Environmental issues must be highlighted in society, and positive change can begin with children,” Shbatat said.
Additionally, Green Spot Recycling has also developed an online eco shop to promote and sell locally produced environmental items and concepts.
Shbatat said the company is dedicated to serving as a center for startup enterprises and home-based manufacturers who share their eco-friendly philosophy and incorporate environmental consciousness into their products.
The company also expanded its own product line, which now includes a variety of product designs.
