Israeli Ministry of Energy announced activating a
new route through Jordan to deliver gas to Egypt and increase the contracted
quantities. Exports of Natgas company gas through the new route in northern
Jordan will generate more than 100 million shekels in revenues.
According to the report, 67 percent of the Leviathan
gas field production goes to
Egypt and Jordan. The total production of the
Leviathan reservoir was approximately 2.7 billion cubic meters in the first
quarter of 2022, 0.7 billion cubic meters of which reached Jordan and 1.1
billion cubic meters Egypt. The rest, of 0.9 million cubic meters, was for
Israeli consumption.
According to the Israeli ministry of foreign
affairs, the quantity of natural gas exported to Egypt can increase by using
the Jordanian transport system, so natural gas will arrive from the gas
reservoirs in the heart of the sea, through the Israeli transport system, to
the linking point of the Jordanian transport system and from there the it will
be transported to Aqaba, eventually reaching Egypt.
It is expected that exports across this route will reach 2.5
to 3 billion cubic meters in 2022, and could rise to 4 billion cubic meters in
upcoming years.
