AMMAN — Qatari merchants and importers said that they had reached agreements to import Jordanian olive oil and olives, and agreements to increase the Qatari market’s import of Jordanian food and agricultural products during the 2022 World Cup, according to Al-Mamlaka TV. Merchants and importers said that they are focusing on imports of vegetables and fruit, to meet the high demand expected during the World Cup, which Qatar hosts, as approximately 1.5 million visitors and fans are projected to attend the event. During the past few days, Qatari merchants increased imports of Jordanian food items and produce, to cope with the demand, and imported large quantities of olive oil, which is a basic ingredient used in the preparation of many food items, especially in restaurants. Jordan is expected to produce 28,000 tonnes of olive oil this season; large quantities of the produce will go to local consumption, while the rest will be exported, chiefly to the Gulf markets. Qatar’s and many other Gulf countries markets are keen to import Jordanian olive oil, due to its attributes, which mostly meet the Gulf requirements and standards set for the product.
