Volume of trade with Russia, Ukraine over JD308m in first 11 months of 2021

AMMAN — Jordan’s volume of trade with Russia and Ukraine during the first 11 months of 2021 amounted to JD308.1 million, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.اضافة اعلان

The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) data shows that the balance of trade is in favor of Russia and Ukraine, at a value of about JD298.3; imported goods include grains, oils, and live animals.

The balance of trade, which represents the difference between the value of imports and exports, is a vital economic indicator and an input in countries’ gross domestic product.

Jordan imports many goods from Russia, including barley, chickpeas, iron, copper, sugary products, and sunflower seed oil. It exported fertilizers, dates, and garments to Russia in 2020.

Jordan established diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation on August 21, 1963, based on friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.

Jordan and Russia share many political, economic, and cultural agreements that had a great influence in strengthening the ties between the two countries and in establishing an authentic, strategic partnership in various fields.

There is also a joint Jordanian-Russian committee that holds regular meetings to follow up on work in the fields of cooperation, especially in agriculture, tourism, transport, and energy.

The trade exchange between Jordan and Russia in 2020 amounted to about JD189.4 million (JD1.8 exports and JD187.6 imports), which shows the balance of trade in favor of Russia.

Meanwhile, commercial exchange during the first 11 months of 2021 amounted to JD182.8 million (JD1.4 million exports and JD181.4 million imports), showing a JD180 million balance of trade in favor of Russia.

ACC indicated that most Jordanian imports from Russia were durum wheat, to the value of JD63.1 million, while the most exported product to Russian was printing ink, except for the black color, at JD458.700 value.

The data also showed that Jordan’s imports from Ukraine in 2020 included cereals, animal and vegetable oils, livestock, and sulfur, while exported consisted mainly of dried dates.

The trade exchange between the two countries amounted to about JD141.2 million (1.1 million exports and 140.1 million imports) in 2020, with the balance of trade in favor of Ukraine, to the tune of JD139 million, and the highest import that year consisted of grain, at a value of JD52.1 million.

Jordan recognized Ukraine’s independence on December 28, 1991, and the two countries established diplomatic ties on April 19, 1992. The Consulate of Ukraine started operating in Jordan in January 2002; in February 2003, it became embassy.

The trade exchange with Ukraine during the first 11 months of 2021 amounted to about JD125.3 million (exports 3.5 million and imports 121.8 million), bringing the balance of trade in favor of the Ukrainian side, to the value of JD118.3 million.

The commodity that was imported mostly during the first 11 months of last year was sunflower seed oil, worth JD24.2 million, and the highest exported commodities were medicines, amounting to JD2.8 million.

Jordan’s total exports during the first 11 months of 2021 amounted to JD5997.2 million, an 18.3 percent increase over to the same period of 2020, according to the monthly Department of Statistics report on foreign trade.

The rate of total exports to total imports reached 43.4 percent during the first 11 months of 2021, and 45.6 percent in the same period in 2020, marking a 2.2 percent decline.
