After all of Israel’s aggression on Gaza, Netanyahu came out
to announce victory, and that Israel has managed to weaken the Palestinian
resistance to the point where it can no longer stand on its own feet.

Few years have passed and a new round of clashes has proven
to us that the resistance is stronger than ever. The world has witnessed the
notable advancement in the Palestinian resistance’s fire power, more notably
Hamas’; so much so that all Israeli settlements have become possible targets
for Palestinian rockets.
This may not necessarily constitute a shift in the military
power balance, but its repercussions have affected the region’s political
sphere. Recent events have been a testament to the Palestinian people’s
resistance of the occupation by all means necessary, and that they will not
waiver until they are granted their legitimate rights.
Among the most notable developments in the Gaza case, is the
initiative its people showed to develop different forms of resistance, and the
spirit of resistance that was sparked across Arab streets in support of
Palestine.
The equation of occupation and security has collapsed in
Palestine. The equation of occupation and Pan-Arab normalization of ties has
collapsed in the Middle East, while the equation of occupation and second-class
citizenship has collapsed in Israel, exposing the occupation’s weakness and
helplessness.
Jordan’s approach to the Arab-Israeli struggle has passed
the test; there will be neither peace nor security until the Palestinians have
peace and national independence. Jordanians have often said that the key to the
war in Palestine is Jerusalem, and recent events have given merit to this
logic. Attempts to change the status quo or tamper with the rights of
Jerusalemites have resulted in the most heated armed faceoff yet.
Meanwhile, Egypt is making its presence and weight known, which
acts in favor of the Arabs. This is where the need arises to implement
strategies for trilateral cooperation between Jordan, Iraq and Egypt —
expanding its scope to include other Arab nations. An alliance between the
Levant and Egypt would be decisive for the region, and Syria should be at the
heart of the equation. The region is changing and stakeholder nations must keep
up. Hamas is not merely a Palestinian platoon, but a major player in the Arab
and regional equation that cannot be ignored.
Reaching a ceasefire in
Gaza and putting an end to Israeli
aggression is an important step that helps Washington move past the second-hand
embarrassment from international perceptions of Israel. American diplomacy is
planning for eminent action in the region that begins with a tour by its
secretary of state this week, the aim of
which will be to sustain the relative calm for as long as possible and
transition to discussing a political solution. The new approach in Washington and
the Biden administration’s shift in rhetoric must be capitalized on to enhance
the Palestinian stance and put an end to
Israeli aggression.
We are now coming to the end of one era and starting
another.
