Stronger but not victorious

Those of us who were active participants in the peace process with Israel are now the hidden victims of the Israeli warmongering acts. In this uncalled-for fifth war against Gaza, we hear the same causes, the same propaganda, and the same bravado claims. People in Amman and Jerusalem look at us, dovish peace lovers, as unwilling partners in the crimes and atrocities committed against Palestinians at the hands of trigger-happy Israeli soldiers and police.اضافة اعلان

Israeli peace campaigners on the other side are embarrassed by their government’s belligerence. Israeli peace campaigners are probably embarrassed. Yet they have their comfort zones where they bask in the protection of Uncle Sam, who is himself caving to Netanyahu’s pressure and bullying.

Of course matters are not that naively simple. It is the Evangelist, which is basically anti-Islamic, anti-Arab and anti-Palestinian. This movement had backed the idiotic “Deal of the Century”, presenting to Israel and Netanyahu their unwavering support. With Trump out, they are using their influence to deter or derail any Biden efforts to arrive at an acceptable peace deal.

Who is gaining from this situation, especially if Netanyahu scores in the new definite fifth Knesset elections in Israel? To answer the question succinctly, I need to lay out some basic facts.

Should Netenyahu win and continue to be the prime minister of Israel, he will go back, ex-post, to the defunct “Deal of the Century” formula and give the peace drive the used-car salesmen treatment. The deal is nothing but wreck, salvaged from a junkyard.

The result would be its refusal by Palestinians, Jordanians, Arabs, and Muslims all over the world. And if this development leads to the destruction of Al-Aqsa Mosque, it will create a deep-rooted reaction that would lead to a holy war.

The attempts to solicit some Islamic countries to the list of normalizers could succeed with remote and detached countries who add very little to Israel’s acceptability. Yet, countries with a strong military edge in Asia would never go down that road of doom, even if the carrot offered to them seems large, the reward would be bitter.

Then there is the fact that the US is withdrawing its troops from Afghanistan and about to reach an inevitable nuclear deal with Iran. China is counting on Pakistan until the prime minster of India makes up his mind as how he wants to deal with the Muslims of India.

While US Evangelists, together with their Islamophobic European partners, could collude to support Israel against the Palestinians, the Islamic world could develop its countervailing response; that the Muslim world is not only Arabs, that they are militarily strong, and their religious zeal — while rationally tempered — is reflective of their spirit.

China is beyond being checked. Russia finds China to be a more amiable and trustworthy ally. Could Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, some central Asian republics, and Turkey create a coalition that would choose China over the United States and Europe?

A quote by Samuel Huntington, author of “Clash of Civilizations,” is worth remembering: “The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion ... but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.”

Israel and its allies may be more powerful, but they will not be victorious.
