Makeup artist Lucas White explains that choosing the right concealer depends on the desired use. He suggests that to hide dark circles, a peach or orange concealer is ideal, as these shades counteract the dark blue-black tones commonly found under the eyes.
For redness and blemishes, such as pimples or pigmentation spots, a green-toned concealer works best, as green neutralizes red.
Concealer First or Foundation? On the other hand, White emphasizes the importance of the order in which makeup products are applied. He advises applying foundation first, followed by concealer. Foundation provides the base coverage, so only a small amount of concealer will be needed afterward.
If you apply concealer first and then apply an oily or creamy foundation on top, the concealer's coverage may be diminished. The only exception to this rule is when using high-coverage camouflage products, which are specifically designed to be applied under foundation.
How to Apply Concealer:
Under the Eyes: Apply concealer in small dots to the dark areas, usually in the inner corner of the eye. Blend gently with tapping motions, working from the inner to the outer corner to brighten the center of the face and give it a fresher, more vibrant look.
Redness or Blemishes: Use a small amount of concealer to cover these areas. It’s best to apply concealer with your fingertip to ensure an even distribution.
Tip for Longer-lasting Concealer: To make your concealer last longer, set it with translucent powder, especially around the eyes, as it may settle into fine lines over time.
