“In March
this year, and during the last lockdown, I was trying different art forms, I had
time to experiment, and I ended up making clay accessories.” Yasmine, a fashion
designer, said in an interview with
Jordan News.

The designer
added that when she returned to Amman she also started to learn sewing, and
began experimenting with new materials, and what started as a simple hobby
evolved into a business.

“I wanted to
create simple things because I just got into sewing.” The designer added.

Yasmine’s experimentation
started with clay, which led her to produce eyeball necklaces. She soon began
creating other accessories from clay, such as hair beads, strawberry cloud
earrings, moon cloud earrings, and other items.

She also
creates bandanas, which come in different colors and with unique designs, “I
used to dye my hair a lot, and I was choosing colors by what colors can match
with my hair,” the designer said.
Yasmine uses
pattern grading, a technique that produces a range of sizes for a single style,
she added.
The designer
also uses shades of pink in most of her designs, especially for corsets, “Light
pink is my favorite color, I used it a lot.” She added, “When I go to the
fabric design (shop) I choose what I like and then I create the design.”
“I use so
many different materials, and I use thick satin in most of my products, in
addition to organza and other types of satin.”
Furthermore,
she said that she produced all of her products in Amman. “I made corsets,
it was easy and I liked the final product.” She added.
“I live next
to a fashion school and in London it is so easy to find inspiration. And when I
am in Amman, I usually use the internet to stand out,” Yasmine said.
Her
imagination also led her to create reversible corsets, with mismatched colors,
along with the quirky charms dangling from earrings, adorning bandanas, and
generally plastered all over Yasmine’s Instagram.
The designer
added that social media is also a source of inspiration for her: "As much
as I love to be original and different, a lot of the times I follow what is
trendy if I find it interesting and pretty."
She also experiments
with different materials and production methods as a new business, but lets her
own personal sense of what she likes motivate her, she said. Much of her
collection, such as bandanas, corsets, and clay accessories are pictured on her
Instagram,
@yasminesbrain.
Additionally,
Yasmine said she is working on a collection of skirts to add to her wide swath
of items.
