If you have more than three kids, and baby seats are a part of your car setup, and daily school runs are part of your schedule, you have probably thought about owning a seven seater SUV, but you may have been worried about the gas guzzling reputation of these family movers. Keep reading, I’ve got you covered.اضافة اعلان

The fourth generation of Toyota’s eight-seater family car has finally arrived in the Jordanian market a short while ago. In my opinion, it is the best car in its class for several reasons, the most important of which is the fact it is a Toyota, it has room for eight, and its hybrid.

The exterior design of the Highlander follows Toyota’s new design language, especially the Japanese brand’s new SUV family design approach, with a large front-end featuring a large grille that comes in glossy black paint with a Toyota logo in the center and blue highlights because it is a hybrid. The headlights come with LED and halogen technology with daytime running lights.

The side of the Highlander comes with a noticeably smooth design, large overhangs, and large doors, particularly the rear door, which facilitates entry to the rear seats. The Highlander has 18-inch rims — 20 inches with the limited model. From the back, we see LED lights with a design similar to the luxury SUV flagship, the Lexus LS570.

The interior of this soccer moms’ SUV of choice is very family oriented. There is lots of space available for all passengers, as well as a large and panoramic sunroof available for the limited model. The front seats come with a comfortable design and electric control for the driver. Both front seats are electrically heated, and the center console features control buttons for selecting the driving mode, as well as a button for the EV option to travel with electricity only. Additionally, the Highlander has a trailer towing feature and a TRAIL button, in addition to electric hand brake control buttons, two USB charging points, a phone slot and a 12V power input.

The air conditioner is powerful, with electronic control for the front seats and another for the back seats. The 8-inch touch screen contains many applications, including one that shows the operations of the hybrid system, which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple Car Play.

The navigation system ships with stored maps available in the limited model. There is a driver information screen in 4.2 and 7-inch sizes, depending on the model, controlled via the steering wheel buttons, which also allows controlling the audio system.

The second-row back seats offer excellent space for three passengers with a middle shoulder rest. This row can be moved to give more space to the third row, and in the back there are air conditioning vents and air conditioning control buttons, as well as USB charging points.

Entry to the third row of seats is easy and, with one movement, this row gives space good for small passengers, with the possibility of increasing the space by moving the second row forward as mentioned. The third row has upper air conditioning vents, the luggage space is excellent compared to the competition even with the third row of seats up, and this space increases significantly when the seat rows are folded, which is a very easy process.

The hybrid system in the new Toyota Highlander is the best in class, and it consists of a 2.5-liter petrol engine, two electric motors, and a nickel metal hydride battery. The system generates a total power of 243hp and 430Nm of torque, transmitted to the front wheels via the E-CVT gearbox. Power is transmitted to the front wheels in the base model, and to all four wheels in the higher-spec models through the AWD-I intelligent all-wheel drive system.

Acceleration from 0–100kmp/h is done in less than 8 seconds and the top speed is 185kmp/h.  The most important feature of the hybrid system in the Toyota Highlander is the best-in-class fuel economy, as it can cover 100km with a consumption of only 6.5–7.7 liters, depending on the driving conditions, which is unheard of in the category of seven-seater SUVs.

Standard safety systems in the Highlander include 11 airbags, ABS, anti-lock braking system, EBD brake force distribution, and VSC stability control system.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid is currently offered in Jordan at a price starting from JD35,900, and with a 3-year manufacturing warranty or 100,000km, and a 7-year warranty on the hybrid system.

If you are one for those looking for an eight-seater family mover that offers comfort, performance, safety, and most importantly, unrivaled economy, the Toyota Highlander Hybrid is the SUV for you.
