Virtual Reality (VR) has grown in popularity over the past few years,
and it is not the least bit surprising.

As technology
constantly advances, so does the intuitiveness of VR gaming headsets. And the
quality, realism, and immersion these headsets can currently offer are
mind-blowing.
Some headset
games focus on displaying the graphical fidelity of the device, while others
focus on showing the mechanical intricacies their VR games offer.
While more and
more people are gaining an interest in trying out VR games, some will,
unfortunately, feel a bit overwhelmed by the amounts of VR headset options that
are out there.
So let’s try
pointing your curiosity in the right direction.
Which headset
should you buy?
There are a lot of VR headsets these days, and each one is attempting
to compete with the other with new innovative technology. But let’s try to
dwindle down your options.
If you are still
hesitant to spend what seems like a hefty chunk of cash on a VR headset, then a
safe choice would be the
Oculus Quest 2. Being priced at around $300, which is
reasonable compared to other headsets, the OQ2 is a great all-rounder to get
your VR gaming started.
If, on the other
hand, you exclusively play on PlayStation, then look no further than the
Sony PlayStation VR. Sitting at around $270 to $360, it is the go-to headset for all
you PlayStation gamers out there.
If you want to
jump straight down the rabbit hole of VR and have some money to spend, you
should definitely get your hands-on Valves Index VR Kit, which gives you an
even greater depth of immersion with its revolutionary controllers.
Game options
So, you got your VR headset; now what?
There are plenty of
great games out there that you will want to jump straight into. If you are a
fan of Guitar Hero games and have no problems moving around too much, then Beat
Saber will be right up your alley. Throwing you straight into the game, it
becomes your job to hit all the notes coming at you with the two light saber
gadgets that you will be wielding. But make sure to keep an eye out on both
their direction indicators and the obstacles that you will need to avoid as
well.
If quick-time
action is more your style, then SUPERHOT is the game for you. It is a bodacious
bullet hell where everything slows down immensely when you stop moving.
SUPERHOT makes you feel like the next John Wick as you shoot, stab, and blow up
your foes.
However, if all
that sounds a bit too much, or not enough, then check out Doom VFR and start
slaying sleuths of demons with a killer soundtrack blasting your eardrums.
Finally, if a
story-oriented game is what matters to you (and you also happen to be a fan of
the Half-Life series), then Half-Life: Alyx is a must-try. Offering a story of
an impossible battle against an alien race, the events of Half-Life: Alyx are
set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2.
These are only
some games out of many, so make sure to check out other titles like No Man’s
Sky, Tetris Effect,
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, and plenty more if
you want more diversity. Just make sure you do your research.
Whether you are buying a
VR headset for the first time or planning on upgrading your current one, there
are plenty of reasons for this to be a good investment. Regardless of whether
it is used to focus on the gaming side of things or as an excuse to get a bit
of a workout in while doing something different and fun, it’s clear that the
next step in gaming could very well be a virtual one.
