The election process witnessed significant participation
from the club members, as 4,193 out of 5,980 members cast their votes.
Several candidates on the Wehdat board of directors objected
to the mechanism used to sort the elections' results, especially regarding the
emphasis on counting the ballots and announcing the results immediately after
voting was concluded.
The supervisory committee decided to prevent candidates from
appearing in front of the ballot boxes in an unprecedented move in the
elections, which provoked anger and objection from the candidates.
Youth Minister Mohammad Nabulsi tweeted after the elections
thanking the Youth Ministry and public security for ensuring the success of the
elections in the clubs and ensuring “a successful democratic process”.
More than 130 clubs registered with the Youth Ministry for
the past year were run by interim administrative bodies. Due to
COVID-19 restrictions, the elections for these clubs have been postponed until the end
of 2021.
