In a press conference following the Kingdom (0-0) tie with
Kuwait — held at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium — Borkelmans said:
“The team did not perform as they should have in the first half as they seemed
nervous and relied heavily on long passes. They picked up the pace in the
second half and had several opportunities but we simply were not lucky enough
to score and win the match point.”
He added: Things are now clear for all to see. We need to
win our next match against Austrial to qualify to the next round. We tried hard
to score a few points against Kuwait but failed; so we need to make up for it
in the next match.”
The national team maintained its position as runner up in
Group B of the qualifiers (14pts.), while Australia kept its distant lead
(21pts.) and Kuwait has left the competition, coming in third (11pts.).
In a show of support,
HRH Crown Prince Hussein spoke to the
team via video conference, in the attendance of HRH Prince Ali, assuring the
team of Jordanians’ full support and highlighting the importance of winning
their next match against Australia, according to a statement published on the
Jordan Football Association’s website.
