U14 girls team crowned WAFF champion, four members infected with COVID-19

AMMAN — The national U-14 girls football team was crowned with the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship title, by defeating Lebanon 1-0, in the final match that was held at the Fouad Chehab stadium in Beirut. The national team player Hala Marar won the award for best player in the tournament. Marar also won the tournament’s top scorer award by scoring three goals along with her teammate Jana Maatouq, and the Palestinian team player Leen Khoury.

Four members of the team to tested positive for coronavirus, the Jordan Football Association (JFA) announced Saturday, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The JFA announced on it official website that PCR tests showed that coach Imad Tarayra, physician Aseel Abu Deyeh and players Ranin Abu Srour and Sama Shnikat were infected with the virus.

The association said that the infections came after the PCR tests were conducted yesterday before the final match against Lebanon,  and that they will go into a five-day isolation period under the Lebanese health protocol, in coordination with the Jordanian embassy in Beirut.

The Jordanian squad returned home on Saturday evening with the trophy according to the statement.
